B.Sc. Intelligence and Security Studies
The Programme
B.Sc. Intelligence and Security Studies, is a programme of the Department of Intelligence and Securities Studies under the College of Social and Management Sciences.
Philosophy
The philosophy of Intelligence and Security Studies programme are:
- To provide the basic knowledge and training in the academic study of Intelligence and Security;
- Contributing to the production of an informed future Intelligence agent.
- Exposing students to past and contemporary issues of global importance in areas of global importance in areas of Intelligence and Security.
- Sharpening the students’ intellect by instilling in them a critical mind that will enable them appreciate the various dimensions of any given international issue in which Intelligence and Security play a dominant role.
Students will be exposed to all facets of Nigeria, African, European, Asian and American affairs on
Intelligence and Security as well as issues of international affairs such as war, terrorism, foreign policy, globalization, and collective security, in which the Department of Intelligence and Security Studies is fully involved.
Objectives
- To allow students have in-depth knowledge of Intelligence and Security as it is central to international relations and organizations.
- Critical study of intelligence and security theories and 8 concepts as relevant to the contemporary issues in world politics.
- Develop in the student competencies for employment in the private, or public sector or self-employment.
- Cultivate in the student the knowledge and skill of understanding and providing solution to societal problems in Nigeria and in the world at large.
- To know the roles of early warning intelligence as a preventive measure to world insecurity.
- The management of global conflicts in areas of terrorism and wars through the application of Intelligence and Security.
Career Opportunities
Graduates of Intelligence and Security Studies can work in organisations such as the:
- National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Department of State Services (DSS);
- Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA);
- Force Intelligence Bureau of Nigeria Police;
- Office of National Security Adviser (NSA);
- Nigeria Prison Service (NPS);
- Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs;
- Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS);
- Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC);
- National Drug Law Enforcement Agency etc.
Admission Requirements
The admission requirements for 100 level students for Intelligence and Security Studies are:
Candidates must possess Five (5) 0’Level credits at not more than two sittings, including English Language, Mathematics, Government and any two of Arts and Social Science subjects.
The admission requirements for Direct Entry students for Intelligence and Security Studies are:
Candidates must possess the Advanced Level (A Level) General Certificate of Education, or its equivalent, in at least two subjects, which must include Government, History or Economics.
Holders of OND, NCE HND, BSc, or BSc. Ed., B.A, or B.A Edu., in related/relevant discipline shall be considered
Course Duration
100 level (O’Level): Four (4) years.
This is four (4) sessions of two (2) semesters each
Direct Entry: Three (3) years
This is three (3) sessions of two (2) semesters each
